Excursion to Kickelhahn

The highest hill close to Ilmenau is the Kickelhahn (861m). On Kickelhahn stands a 24 m tall look-out tower which is one of the town's trademarks. It offers a stunning view of the wooded heights of the Thuringian Forest and its foreland. Furthermore there is a little restaurant and the "Goethe Häuschen",  where Johann Wolfgang von Goethe wrote his famous poem "Über allen Gipfeln ist Ruh ...".

About one kilometer below the summit is the Hunting Lodge at Gabelbach where Goethe often stayed and which is today a museum.

We are offering a hicking tour to Kickelhahn during the DPT. It will take about 3 hours.

If you are interested you can register spontaneously during the conference in the conference office. The hiking tour will take place on sunday morning from 7:15 - 10 am (meeting point presumably 7:15 am at Hotel Tanne in Ilmenau)
