Information to the Place of Event Heidelberg

This year the 17th German Conference of Women in Physics (Deutsche Physikerinnentagung, DPT) will take place in Heidelberg. Heidelberg is well-known as a picturesque town in the Neckar valley. It is one of the most beautiful towns in Germany and home for about 150,000 people. From the "Philosophenweg", the view down to the ruins of Heidelberg Castle, situated above the "alten Brücke" (old bridge) and the Neckar is one of the most famous and tempts numerous visitors from all over the world every year.

(copyright: University of Heidelberg - Communication and Marketing) The town hosts the University of Heidelberg, the oldest university of Germany (founded in 1386), which carries the title "elite university" for the second time in 2012. International Scientists take also advantage of the wide range of additional colleges and scientific institutes (e.g. DKFZ, EMBL, and four Max-Planck Institutes) which work on cutting edge research. The university's prestige is exhibited by ten Nobel prizes being award to its members.
